Fans Represented at Summer of Sonic: Artist Alley and Animations!

Hello, one and all, another announcement today, two in fact.

As is tradition with Summer of Sonic, we reached out to community artists of both animation and traditional/digital art.

This year will see the return of BoozermaN, as he returns with his traditional Summer of Sonic animation. Sonic Paradox also return with a never before seen short, as well as Frobman offering us a new animated short as well. This isn’t all, as we also have some unannounced animations that will be being shown, some for the first time at this years Summer of Sonic. These videos will take place sporadically throughout the day, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for when they are released!

Also keeping with Summer of Sonic tradition, we will be seeing the return of featured fan artists this year. Joining notable names from the past is Miles Arquio, a Summer of Sonic veteran and previous art contest winner, as well as two artists who have highlighted Weston Super Sonic in Rebecca Wallduck and Kimmy Paris. All these artists will be situated in the art corner, and we encourage you to visit these artists over the course of the day and say hello!

Keep ’em peeled for more announcements as we get ever closer to Summer of Sonic on August 6th!

See you soon!

Event Announcement: Community Spotlight LIVE

CSL promo poster FINAL

Hello ladies and gentlemen, my name is Pete “TitansCreed” Nethercote, here to talk to you once more about another panel happening at this years Summer of Sonic event!

Once upon a time, I hosted an interview segment on Sonic Wrecks (now Last Minute Continue) which then moved to YouTube called the Community Spotlight, this year, I’m proud to announce it is returning for a one off show at Summer of Sonic, now aptly dubbed, Community Spotlight LIVE.

Joining me for this one off greeting is a cavalcade of names within the Sonic community who have agreed to talk with me about the Sonic community and how they have joined and interacted with it over the span of the last several years.

Those people are: Svend “Dreadknux” Joscelyne and Adam Tuff of the Sonic Stadium, Jamie Egge Mann and Tanner Bachnick of The Sonic Show, Matt Mannheimer of Tails Channel and Tyson Hesse of Archie fame.

It is a great honour to be joined by these names, and we welcome you to join us in the London 6 room at the Summer of Sonic 2016 event. We will be taking some questions from what crowd we have, as well as some questions submitted to questions@summerofsonic.com.

I, as well as my guests look forward to seeing you at the ILEC centre on August 6th!

Event Announcement: Crush 40 Performance & History of SoS Panel

Hey all!

Two announcements today for Summer of Sonic 2016 events:

Crush 40 Performance

Crush 40 will once again be hitting the main stage at Summer of Sonic stage this year, performing their hits from over 15 years of Sonic the Hedgehog soundtracks!

As with past events, the performance will close out the show, so be sure to stick around and rock out with Jun and Johnny until the end of the day!

History of Summer of Sonic Panel

Hello everyone, Kevin “AAUK” Eva here! You may remember me from my days as SEGA of Europe Community Manager, and a time when Werehogs roamed the land. I have been resurrected by the powers of Summer of Sonic to bring you not one, but two announcements!

Summer of Sonic is unique and amazing event, starting as a fan gather that eventually forged a fantastic partnership between SEGA and the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom. This year marks the tenth anniversary of Summer of Sonic, from it’s inception as an online event created by Svend Joscelyne, and ten years since the first idea of Summer of Sonic as a convention was coined in a little tea room in Nottingham.

At Summer of Sonic 2016 we invite you to join myself along with Summer of Sonic Coordinators Svend Joscelyne and Adam Tuff for a special panel to discuss the History of SOS. From upstart early days to present, relive ten years plus of funny moments and untold behind the scenes stories both from the community and SEGA sides about the creation of a convention that defied convention.

As our roster of events has grown so massive, for the first time in Summer of Sonic history, we will have a dedicated second stage which will play host to panels and interviews throughout the day. Yup, Summer of Sonic is essentially going to have a second track. We have limited space in the second second stage room, so entry will be allowed on a first-come, first-served basis.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Kevin, Adam & Svend

Event Announcement: Cosplay Competition 2016

Hello one and all! My name is Pete “TitansCreed” Nethercote, and I’m delighted to confirm that the cosplay competition at Summer of Sonic is definitely happening this year. We’ve had multiple questions from curious Mobians and Badniks alike, and you bet that the team are more than happy to give you the low down on how this year is going to go!

I want to cosplay! Where do I sign up?

There will be a signup booth close to the entrance of the venue, which will be open for signups until lunch. All entrants (depending on number of signups) will be divided into groups which will be called upon later in the day for preliminary judging. You’ll be given a group name and a time to return to the booth, but don’t worry! We’ll announce when it’s time for each group to come up for the initial judging rounds.

Why do we need preliminary judging?

Because there’s simply too many fantastic costumes to fit on one small stage! But don’t worry… you’ll all be given your moment to shine in the group stages, and there’ll be plenty of opportunities for photos!

What are you looking for when judging?

Each individual will be marked with the following criteria in mind:

Originality. Creativity. Characterization. Complexity.

Now, what do those mean? In terms of all those items, we, as the judges, are aware that entrants will vary between age groups and take that in mind when judging. All those terms are basically asking is that you put your all into becoming the character you are aiming to cosplay.

Do you know what the timetable for the day will be?

As we come closer to the launch of Summer of Sonic, we’ll have more concrete times for sign-ups and judging. These will be timetabled for your reference, so don’t worry about missing a thing – we’ve got it covered!

Who are the judges this year?

The judges till be myself and Ciara “Nemain” Thrush, who have been the people at the helm of the contest in previous years. However! We are also proud and excited to welcome Claire Cameron to the team this year, who is one of the co-organisers of Weston-Super-Sonic (and an absolutely rockin’ Excalibur Sonic cosplayer to boot)!

Will there be changing rooms/cloakrooms?

There is a cloakroom upon site, we will ask if we can use these facilities for changing for cosplay purposes. When we have more information on this, we will share with you all.

If anyone has any further questions, please feel free to leave them in the comments below, and we’ll try to answer as many as we can in a follow up post.

Stay way past cool, folks!

TitansCreed, on behalf of The Summer of Sonic Cosplay Team.
